As Underground Prints slowly starts to establish itself, and the date for my orientation at Target quickly gets closer and closer. I took some time to evaluate things, and take a step back and get a good look, at least a better look at things. Starting your own business is a butt load of work. And along the way I lost sight of alot of the small things. When your focus is on making money, you lose alot more than just remembering things. Fortunately, that is no longer where my focus is. The focus is for another post.
One of the things I kind of forgot about was organization, more importantly, comfort within organization. It's one thing to have a solid office space that works. It's another thing to have a solid office space that works, but you're not comfortable in it. So I started there. I needed a better desk. The one I had was great for years, but unfortunately like shoes, it got too small. How weird would it be if our feet were the same size as they were when we were all 10...on our now overweight and taco bell abused bodies. The desk was kind of like that. Me and my Wife have chosen to do as many things as we possibly can ourselves. Recognizing you can often do it better, cheaper, and cooler yourself. So I built a new desk. Using old pallets and spare hardware, it cost me zero dollars and 2 afternoons of sweat and tired arms. But it looks cool, works awesome, will last years longer than anything else, and most importantly I'm comfortable using it. It keeps me focused. Funny, Underground Prints has been established for nearly 3 years now and I'm just starting to do things that should have been done since the foundation. I think there are others that have done things this way, as an encouragement, take a step back and look at your foundation. What is your focus, and what do you have that is inhibiting that focus from driving your vision. Stop just trying to make money. Or that's all you'll ever do. Making money is cool, but...is it really something worth building a foundation for and focusing for? I guess for some. Not for Underground Prints.
